Well, a diamond from the CES is still a diamond, if the carbon is in the right arrangement.

I guess it depends on whether a past as a living creature is a necessary condition for fossilhood, or whether silicates mimicking the shape of one is sufficient, given that most of the particles from the original organism are replaced during petrification anyway.
