[When the view clicks on, Anya is obviously changed. She has the glowing blue eyes, and her skin looks almost grey. She isn't quite light-skinned enough for classic pallor, but the color is leached from her face. She sits still and straight, with a degree of composure that is, in fact, precisely normal for her. She missed breakfast today, and now it's quite clear why.]

They can! Conversions to other species are monitored by law, of course, and done in government facilities. I've had students who are frustrated with the red tape, but it's there for a reason -- once you start a conversion, you're in it for good.
There was actually a fad of zombie conversions recently because a popular singer went Z. Not too long before I came to the Barge I was talking with a few of them who were worried they made the decision too quickly. This could be a really good place for them.
