017 ☣ Infirmary post + some housekeeping things
[Backdated to Tuesday]
[She's been in the infirmary since late Sunday night, but she spent most of Monday sleeping. She looks a little pale, propped against pillows, hooked up to an IV, but she seems comfortable enough.]
Hello, barge.
I am so bored. Worse, I can't read without getting a headache right now. So.
[She holds up an infirmary clipboard, the paperwork turned over so she could draw neat, careful charts on the back.]
Come in, sign up for a half-hour time slot and book. Books are sorted by genre and how many hours I estimate it will take to finish them. If you read to me, I'll bake you something nice later.
[OOC: feel free to ignore the regimented tyranny of storytime and talk to her about whatever, either on the network or via spam.]
[Private spam for Ben, before the attacks.]
[She knocks on his door, a cold, shaken look on her face.]

There's a few volumes of plain language poetry that might suit.

[Never in his life. But he's sort of facetious about the small words, he's not a bad reader. Just. A really gravelly one.]

'Ello, Anya my love. What'd you fancy?

[she settles in against her pillows a bit more, biting her lip speculatively for a moment]
- or you can tell me about a world I've never heard of.

I daresay you've 'eard of Wonderland, but I think you missed our Wonderland breach, didn't you? And I know I've not told you about the first time I were there. It all started with an archaeological dig under a tube station.

He's reviewing sheet music when the knock comes, listening to the music the notes are meant to pertain to and attempting to match the sounds with the marks on the page. He glances up, pausing in his thoughtful pacing.]
It's open.

Which means he's going to need to be more careful, whatever this is. He's concerned immediately, of course, but it still takes him a moment to put the papers in his hand down on the dresser, and he checks the door before moving on near-silent feet to take the chair opposite her.
He doesn't intrude on her taking her moment - but he is there, waiting and watching intently, mouth pressed to a line that is his personal version of a frown, bright brown eyes steady and inquisitive. Only when she looks at him or gives some other outward sign that she's ready to interact with him does he speak quietly.]
Anya?

[Though her tone is about a neutral as ever, as if she were merely stating a fact rather than an accusation.]
Perhaps it would be beneficial to the residence if some sort of audio feature were added to our current sources of information. Should the lack of vision become a sudden reality, however temporary.
[Speaking from experience.]

She's there soon enough, though. In front of her, hovering at chest level, floats a vibrantly illustrated box. On top of it lay several more books, tied together with a green silk ribbon.
She waves to Anya when her bed comes into sight.]
Hi!

[She plucks carefully at the ribbon, lip kind of wavering. She got a few things for Christmas this year, but she's never had anyone give her a present just because.]
Gosh. Jean - you didn't - I mean - thank you.

Most of them are anthologies - fantasy and scifi. You said you hadn't read much, so I thought - that would be a good introduction. [She went for scifi with a political slant, fantasy with intricate world building, and strong female characters.
The last two books are different. One is the Wizard of Oz Encyclopedia. The other - the latest publication on magnetism. Her smile falters when Anya comes to that.]
I, um - I know you've probably found everything you can about it, but my time is your future, so... [She'd wondered, about this one. Hesitated. But she knows knowledge is power and power makes you feel safe, wherever you are.
She's already read a copy.]

Anya's awake enough for alertness between two naps, at least she guesses, and she barely sleeps anyway, so they're probably the only two people awake at this hour. If they want to talk beyond "you need anything?", it's a good time.]
Getting late. How you feeling?

[ Spam - Infirmary this time! ]
He's in an out of the infirmary, working off his energy however he can, so he actually misses when she first comes awake. It's her post to the network about stories that brings him back, and by then he's discovered not only what actually happened when he dropped her off, but other big news that he isn't sure what to make of yet. Ben's always quiet, but this is a different sort, actively introverted as opposed to simply holding himself separate from the rest of the world. He still moves over to her bedside directly, eases down into the visitor's chair after only a moment of hesitation, and studies what he can see of her.]
